Forensic Psychiatry Services
Trent C. Holmberg, MD is board-certified in adult and forensic psychiatry (a sub-specialty of psychiatry that focuses on the interface of law and mental health). After completing his adult psychiatry residency at the University of Utah in 2002, Dr. Holmberg completed a forensic psychiatry fellowship through the prestigious psychiatry and the law program at the University of California-Davis in Sacramento, California.
Dr. Holmberg has extensive experience serving as an expert witness in both criminal and civil proceedings. He has worked on over 700 cases and has provided trial testimony as an expert witness in multiple U.S. jurisdictions and in Canada. He is known to be detailed and thorough in his reports. Dr. Holmberg is an active member of the American Academy of Psychiatry and Law (AAPL), having served on its Executive Council, as AAPL Secretary, and as the 2020 Annual Meeting program co-chair. He chaired the forensic Private Practice committee and currently co-chairs the Membership committee. He is the currently serving as AAPL Vice President.
Dr. Holmberg currently sits on the following AAPL committees: Geriatric Psychiatry and the Law, Media/Public Relations, Membership, Private Practice, Program, Suicidology, Trauma and Stress, and the Virtual AAPL Continuing Medical Education. He is a peer reviewer for the Journal of the American Academy of Psychiatry and the Law (JAAPL). He is aslo an adjunct professor at the University of Utah where he volunteers his time in classroom teaching and in clinical supervision of psychiatry residents completing forensic psychiatry rotations.
