Forensic Psychiatric Evaluations and Patient Practice - What is the Difference?
Forensic psychiatry involves legal matters such as criminal, guardianship, competency, disablity or injury cases. A forensic psychiatric evaluation is conducted when an expert psychiatric opinion is needed for a legal case and does not involve any type of treatment or medication management for the individual being evaluated. These individuals are not considered patients, but treatment reommendations may be suggested as part of a forensic psyhiatrist's expert report.
A patient is someone who receives psychaitric treatment, which mainly involves medication mangement and may also involve psychotherapy, in a clinical setting. Most patients who are prescribed medications are requred to have an appointmnt with their psychiatrist every 3-6 months depeding on the type of medication they are being prescribed.
Starting August 1, 2022 Dr. Holmberg will be seeing his current patients at Strive Psychiatry located at 11762 State St #360, Draper, UT 84020. He will continue to conduct forensic evaluations at his current office address listed above.
